The United States is in the World Cup final for the first time since it last won the title in 1999, and once again Abby Wambach came up big for these Americans, scoring in a 3-1 victory over France. Gamba Osaka's Brazilian forward Adriano has agreed to a transfer to Qatar second division champions Al-Jaish. The Qatar Football Association said on its website Sunday that the striker has signed a three-year deal with the Qatari club. The 29-year-old, who joined Gamba from city rivals Cerezo during the offseason, scored nine goals in eight games in the 2011 J-League campaign.

Gimnasia defeated Huracan 2-0 on Wednesday in Argentina's relegation playoffs. The victory in a one-off match put Gimnasia into a further two-legged playoff, beginning Sunday, with second division San Martin de San Juan. The winner of that contest will play in the top flight next season, while the loser will join Huracan in the second division.
