Blues C McDonald out with concussion (AP)

St. Louis Blues center Andy McDonald has a concussion and will be sidelined indefinitely. The team disclosed the injury Tuesday. The 33-year-old McDonald was hurt during the Blues' 2-1 overtime loss Saturday in Edmonton after he inadvertently hit a rut in the ice and crashed into the leg of Oilers player Shawn Horcoff in overtime.

Blackhawks star Kane could miss 3 weeks (AP)

Chicago Blackhawks star Patrick Kane could be out for up to three weeks with a leg injury he suffered after hitting the boards early in Sunday's win over Calgary. Kane, who scored the clinching goal in the Blackhawks' win over Philadelphia in the Stanley Cup finals in June, was hurt after he was checked by Calgary's Cory Sarich.

Serbia rallies to win first Davis Cup (AP)

Serbia celebrated its first Davis Cup title Sunday, becoming only the second unseeded nation to win the trophy when Viktor Troicki beat Michael Llodra 6-2, 6-2, 6-3 to complete a 3-2 combeback win over France. Troicki, who had replaced Janko Tipsarevic in the final singles match, dropped to the court in jubilation after his victory and his teammates fell into each other's arms to celebrate.


Navratilova to hit balls off Kilimanjaro (AP)

Martina Navratilova plans to hit tennis balls off the top of Africa's highest peak. The tennis legend is climbing Tanzania's 19,340 foot- (5,895-meter) mountain next week to raise money and awareness for the Laureus Sport for Good Foundation. Navratilova, 54, has never climbed higher than 12,000 feet (3,660 meters) before, but lives in Aspen, Colorado, so is somewhat used to altitude.

Clijsters wins WTA player of year award (AP)

U.S. Open champion Kim Clijsters is the WTA's player of the year. Clijsters won five tournaments, including the season-ending WTA Championships and her second consecutive title at Flushing Meadows. She was player of the year in 2005. The 27-year-old Belgian also was honored Wednesday with the player service award, given to the woman who did the most to support her fellow players through the WTA...


Sharapova to play in Fed Cup for Russia (AP)

Maria Sharapova will lead Russia in the Fed Cup first-round tie against France next season, the president of the Russian Tennis Federation said Tuesday. Shamil Tarpischev, who is also the Fed Cup captain, said Sharapova has agreed to play in the competition for the first time since making her debut in Russia's 4-1 first-round victory over Israel in 2008.

Federer beats Nadal for ATP Finals title (AP)

Roger Federer turned his high-profile, season-ending match against Rafael Nadal into little more than an exhbition. Federer gave his rival little chance to mount a challenge in the 22nd meeting between two of the greatest players of all time, winning his fifth season-ending title 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at the ATP World Tour Finals on Sunday.
