Stamkos helps Tampa win Boucher's debut (AP)

Steven Stamkos didn't lose his scoring touch during the offseason. Stamkos had two goals and an assist to help new Tampa Bay coach Guy Boucher win his NHL debut in the Lightning's 5-3 victory over the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday night. "It's a good way to start a season," Stamkos said.

Newcomers Kris Versteeg and Clarke MacArthur each had a goal and an assist and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 5-1 on Saturday night. Nikolai Kulemin, Phil Kessel and Tim Brent also scored and Jean-Sebastien Giguere made 17 saves for Toronto, which opened the season Thursday night a 3-2 home victory over Montreal.


Yao scores 10 in 12 minutes, Rockets win (AP)

Luis Scola scored 23 points, Aaron Brooks added nine of his 17 in Houston's big third quarter, and the Rockets beat the Indiana Pacers 126-92 on Saturday night. The Rockets broke from a 57-54 halftime lead with an 18-8 run led by Brooks and Kevin Martin. Houston outscored the Pacers 33-15 in the third quarter and Indiana didn't score in the final 2:34 of the period.


Blackhawks raise Stanley Cup banner (AP)

The Blackhawks are celebrating their long-awaited Stanley Cup title one more time before getting the home opener under way. The United Center crowd cheered again Saturday night when the banner in honor of the Chicago's first Stanley Cup victory since 1961 was raised to the rafters before Chicago faced the Detroit Red Wings.

Nuggets F Harrington to miss 2 weeks (AP)

Denver Nuggets power forward Al Harrington is expected to miss two weeks after re-injuring his left foot in his preseason debut for his new team. The Nuggets said an MRI on Saturday confirmed that Harrington partially tore the plantar fascia in his left foot during the first quarter of Denver's 109-99 win over Portland at the Pepsi Center.
