Pennetta, Rezai win at Palermo Open (AP)

Top-seeded Flavia Pennetta of Italy earned a straight-set win over Kathrin Woerle to advance to the second round of the Palermo Open. The defending champion won 6-3, 6-1 on Tuesday. Second-seeded Aravane Rezai of France had a hard-fought 7-5, 4-6, 6-2 victory over Romania's Simona Halep. Two other seeded players also moved to the second round.

Report: Tomlin gets 3-year extension (AP)

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting that the Steelers have given coach Mike Tomlin a three-year contract extension. The newspaper says Steelers president Art Rooney negotiated the deal. Terms were not available. The Steelers had no comment Tuesday. Tomlin was hired by the Steelers in 2007. He had one year and an option left on his 5-year deal, which was worth about $2.5 million annually.
