Forward Ryan Shannon has signed a one-year contract with the Ottawa Senators, the club said Friday. Shannon has five goals and 11 assists in 55 games for the Senators this season. Last season, Shannon had career highs with eight goals, 12 assists and 20 points. The native of Darien, Conn., was acquired by Ottawa from the Vancouver Canucks in exchange for defenseman Lawrence Nycholat on Sept.

Stars G Auld clears waivers, sent to AHL (AP)

Dallas Stars goalie Alex Auld was assigned to the AHL's Texas Stars on Thursday after clearing waivers. When Auld was waived earlier this week, it provided a strong indication that starting goalie Marty Turco won't be moved before the trade deadline next week. Flames extend F Bourque for 6 yrs., $20M (AP)

Forward Rene Bourque has signed a $20 million, six-year contract extension with the Calgary Flames. The team made the announcement Thursday. Bourque will receive $8 million from 2010-12. The 28-year-old Bourque is in his second season with the Flames. The left wing was acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional draft pick July 1, 2008.

The Nashville Predators have signed goaltender Pekka Rinne to a two-year, $6.8 million contract extension. The team said Wednesday the deal will pay him $2.8 million in 2010-11 and $4 million in 2011-12. The 27-year-old Rinne has a 20-12-4 record in his second full NHL season. As a rookie in 2008-09, he was 29-15-4.

There was a time earlier this season when the Philadelphia Flyers knew a two-goal deficit was tantamount to a loss. Not anymore, and certainly not against the New Jersey Devils.
