Next week, the Atlanta Hawks will face the Orlando Magic in the first round of the playoffs. They couldn't be heading into the postseason in worse shape. The reeling Hawks lost their fourth straight game on Saturday, 115-83 against the Washington Wizards, and weren't even competitive. The loss was embarrassing and puzzling.


Celtics vs. Heat may decide East's No. 2 (AP)

Somehow, after 79 games, nothing between the Boston Celtics and Miami Heat has been decided. Boston, 55-24. Miami, 55-24. Tied for the No. 2 spot in the Eastern Conference, one team will take a stranglehold on the race for home-court through at least the first two playoff rounds on Sunday when the Celtics and Heat meet in Miami.

Derrick Rose chipped in 11 points as the Bulls clinched the East's top seed.

For the first time since the final year of the Michael Jordan era, the road through the Eastern Conference playoffs will again go through Chicago. Carlos Boozer had 24 points and 11 rebounds, and the Bulls clinched the top seed in the East with a 93-82 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers on Friday night.


Billionaire Gores agrees to buy Pistons (AP)

The Detroit Pistons announced Friday that billionaire California investor Tom Gores has agreed to buy the struggling NBA franchise, ending a drawn-out sale by longtime owner Karen Davidson that stretched back before the season. The tentative deal, which also includes The Palace of Auburn Hills and DTE Energy Music Theatre, must be approved by the NBA.

Jalen Rose arrested for DUI (AP)

Former NBA and Fab Five standout Jalen Rose was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of drunken driving. West Bloomfield Township Police Lt. Tim Diamond said Tuesday that Rose was arrested around 2 a.m. March 11. He's accused of operating a vehicle while impaired. A representative for Rose didn't immediately return a call by The Associated Press seeking comment.

Knicks eager to move past rocky March (AP)

The hard part is just about over for the New York Knicks. Heightened expectations and a demanding schedule created a draining month of March. The Knicks complained of too much fatigue and too little fun, strange timing for a franchise that was enjoying its best season in a decade. April should be easier -- at least until those playoff games the Knicks are so close to qualifying for.

Bobcats find way to stay in playoff race (AP)

The Bobcats changed coaches after a terrible start and traded away their only All-Star. Their top scorer has a chronic hamstring injury and is dangerously close to a one-game suspension. They played their most recent game without a center and saw their top two point guards sidelined with injuries in a one-minute span.

Heat F Miller out against Cavaliers (AP)

Miami Heat reserve forward Mike Miller is going to miss at least one game with a bruised knee. Miller is traveling with the team, but will not play in Tuesday night's game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Coach Erik Spoelstra said after the morning shootaround that Miller will sit so his knee can "calm down." Spoelstra does not yet know if Miller, averaging 5.7 points and 4.5 rebounds...

Kings owner rips Sacramento city govt. (AP)

Sacramento Kings owner Joe Maloof made his first public comment about his franchise's possible relocation to Anaheim on Monday night, criticizing a letter sent between the cities' governments. Maloof spoke briefly to the Orange County Register after a Sacramento city official wrote to Anaheim's city manager asking Anaheim to stop negotiations with the Kings.
