Knicks G Shumpert to miss 2-4 weeks (AP)

Knicks rookie guard Iman Shumpert is expected to miss two to four weeks because of a sprained right knee ligament. The first-round pick from Georgia Tech was hurt in the second half of New York's 106-104 victory over Boston on Sunday when Celtics reserve Chris Wilcox appeared to bang into his leg.

Anthony lifts Knicks by Celts in opener (AP)

Carmelo Anthony's late free throws gave New York the edge it needed to win.

Carmelo Anthony and the Knicks know it will never be easy against the Celtics. Not beating them in one game, and certainly not beating them for a division title. But pulling out the kind of nail biter that's long gone Boston's way in this rivalry only reinforced the Knicks' belief that they can do it -- and even the Celtics see a difference.

Stern booed by fans in Dallas (AP)

NBA Commissioner David Stern opened his lockout-delayed season by hearing boos from fans. Stern was in Dallas for the NBA finals rematch between the Mavericks and Heat, and he was on the court for the start of the Mavs' banner-raising ceremony honoring their first championship. The ceremony was supposed to have been held Nov. 1, but the lockout pushed it back.

A 1,300-pound boulder sits just inside the front door to the Toronto Raptors' dressing room, a reminder of the mentality Dwane Casey is trying to instill in his new team. Heading into what the Raptors coach is calling a "building" season, Casey has introduced a new motto: Pound the Rock.

Kobe leads Lakers against Rose's Bulls (AP)

A bizarre offseason for the Los Angeles Lakers has left many unsure what to expect from one of the NBA's most storied franchises. Expectations couldn't get much higher for reigning MVP Derrick Rose and the Chicago Bulls despite not much of an offseason stir. It appears a banged-up Kobe Bryant will play in the season opener as the Lakers host Rose and the Bulls in a much-anticipated...

Thunder waive G Robinson (AP)

Heat waive veteran G House (AP)

Mickell Gladness and Terrel Harris thought they were competing against each other for the last spot on the Miami Heat roster. Instead, the former NBA Development League teammates both played their way onto the club. The Heat announced Saturday that they waived veteran guard Eddie House, meaning a pair of rookies in Gladness and Harris were on the 15-man roster to open the season and therefore...

Rookie salary scale at issue in talks (AP)

Chicago Bulls star Derrick Rose has established himself among the elite NBA players in just three seasons. His salary, however, doesn't come anywhere near the top in the league, let alone his own team. Because of rookie salary scale restrictions, the league's reigning MVP earns about $5.5 million a season -- far less than other NBA stars.

Colangelo part of sports business school (AP)

Even when owners and players clashed about salaries and salary caps, one man always had respect on both sides of the table. Jerry Colangelo has long been one of NBA Commissioner David Stern's most trusted confidants, yet liked enough by players that he got almost everyone he asked for when he built the U.S.

As much fun as these exhibition games are, Chuck Hayes is ready to get back to work in the NBA. Hundreds of fans filed into the arena, paying good money to see some of their favorite hometown NBA players hoop it up, just as they have so many times before.
