Nets pick up options on Lopez, Williams (AP)

The New Jersey Nets have exercised the contract options on center Brook Lopez and swingman Terrence Williams for next season. General manager Billy King said Tuesday the Nets picked up the fourth-year option on Lopez's deal and the third-year option for Williams. Lopez will earn $3.0 million in 2011-12, while Williams will get $2.3 million.

Wade back in court for custody hearing (AP)

Dwyane Wade returned to the witness stand Monday, pledging to be a committed parent if he is awarded custody of his two young sons and admitting he wish he would have sought professional help to save his faltering marriage. The Miami Heat star spent more than 2 1/2 hours testifying Monday, following a full day on the stand Friday.

Rookie Gordon Hayward scored 26 points and the Utah Jazz shrugged off a 19-point third quarter by Kobe Bryant to beat the Los Angeles Lakers 99-94 on Sunday night and run their preseason record to 6-0 for the first time in the franchise's 35-year history. "A game like tonight just gives you a little confidence," Hayward said.


Love's 32 and 13 power Timberwolves (AP)

Kevin Love had 32 points and 13 rebounds to help the Minnesota Timberwolves improve to 5-1 with a 114-109 exhibition victory over the Milwaukee Bucks on Sunday night. Love and Wayne Ellington hit three consecutive late 3-pointers to give the Timberwolves the lead for good. Love was 12 of 17 from the field, hitting three 3-pointers.

Smith leads undermanned Nuggets by Clips (AP)

J.R. Smith scored 24 points and Gary Forbes added 22, leading the Denver Nuggets to a 108-104 exhibition victory over the Los Angeles Clippers on Sunday. Aaron Afflalo, the only player to start all five preseason games for the Nuggets, scored 16 points. Undrafted rookie center Eric Boateng made his first start and had two points in 22 minutes after averaging 13 minutes in his first three games.

Anybody who watched Toney Douglas a night earlier might question him as the option for the final play. Douglas wouldn't. The guard made two free throws with 1.1 seconds left to give the New York Knicks a 92-90 exhibition victory over the Washington Wizards on Sunday night. Raptors drop Suns to 1-5 in preseason (AP)

This preseason has been an exercise in getting to know each other for the retooled Phoenix Suns. And with just over a week left in the exhibition schedule, they're still getting comfortable with each other. Linas Kleiza scored 23 points, Jarrett Jack and Amir Johnson had 17 apiece and the Toronto Raptors beat the Suns 121-100 in a preseason game Sunday.


Magic extend preseason win streak to 19 (AP)

If the preseason really counted for something, the Orlando Magic would be NBA champions and Vince Carter would be Mr. October. The reality is this is tuneup time, even if the Magic don't seem to need it. Despite the fact the Cavaliers were missing four key players, Cleveland's new coach didn't want to hear about injuries following a 90-87 exhibition loss to CSKA Moscow on Saturday night. James back at practice, hamstring fine (AP)

LeBron James returned to practice with the Miami Heat on Saturday, reporting no problems with his ailing right hamstring. The NBA's two-time reigning MVP was sidelined by a hamstring cramp during an exhibition game against CSKA Moscow on Tuesday and had not played or practiced since. James said he went through every aspect of the Heat workout Saturday without issues.

Yao aids Rockets' win over Nets in China (AP)

With a home crowd chanting his name, Yao Ming looked sharp as he tested his surgically repaired foot Saturday in helping the Houston Rockets beat the New Jersey Nets 95-85 in a preseason game. Yao scored 10 points in this showcase for the 7-foot-5 center who has spurred the growth of basketball in China.

Call it an off night for LeBron James and Chris Bosh, as in they got most of the night off. James and Bosh, Miami's two big free-agent signings of the summer, played only the first quarter Saturday night as the Heat lost 90-73 to the San Antonio Spurs in a preseason game. James scored 12 points and Bosh had two before spending the rest of the game on the bench in sweatsuits.


Grizzlies improve to 3-0, beat Hornets (AP)

Zach Randolph scored 21 points, Sam Young had nine of his 12 in the fourth quarter, and the Memphis Grizzlies remained unbeaten in the preseason with a 97-90 victory over the New Orleans Hornets on Saturday night. The Hornets led 74-71 entering the fourth quarter, but Young hit a 3-pointer that gave the Grizzlies (3-0) an 81-78 lead with 9:09 remaining.

Luis Scola scored 23 points, Aaron Brooks added nine of his 17 in Houston's big third quarter, and the Rockets beat the Indiana Pacers 126-92 on Saturday night.
