Peterson sorry for missing youth camp (AP)

Former Tennessee football coach Lane Kiffin, now at Southern California , enters a hearing by the NCAA's infractions committee in Indianapolis, Saturday, June 11, 2011. The hearing was looking into both the basketball and football programs at Tennessee which the NCAA has charged  with committing recruiting violations and has accused both coaches with failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the programs.

Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson apologized to his fans for being absent from a youth football camp carrying his name in Oklahoma. Peterson has appeared at the camp near the Oklahoma campus in Norman the past three years, but says he won't be able to make it Thursday or Friday for this year's event.


CFL gets another season on NFL Network (AP)

The Canadian Football League will be back for a second season on the NFL Network. The network announced Tuesday that two CFL games per week will be broadcast in the United States. There's also an option to show additional games during the regular season and playoffs, including the Grey Cup championship game.

Rams LB Vobora wins $5.4M in drug suit (AP)

St. Louis Rams linebacker David Vobora was awarded $5.4 million in his lawsuit against a Florida supplements maker. More important, Vobora said his reputation has been restored. "Today is a celebration," Vobora said Monday. "Today, I've been proven innocent." U.S. District Judge Rodney Sippel entered the order against the Anti-Steroid Program LLC of Key Largo, Fla., on Friday.

Chris Johnson says his focus when football returns will be on helping the Tennessee Titans get back to the postseason. The running back hosted his annual football camp at Battle Ground Academy on Saturday. Johnson, who received about $2.1 million in a renegotiated deal last year, hasn't been to the playoffs since the 2008 season, and has that atop his list of goals for 2011.

Animal group buys former Vick compound (AP)

An animal rights group bought NFL star Michael Vick's former dogfighting compound on Friday and plans to turn it into a rehabilitation center for chained and penned dogs. Vick pleaded guilty to federal felony charges and served 18 months in prison for running Bad Newz Kennels from the property, which led him to financial ruin.

Rams contributing $25K to tornado relief (AP)

The St. Louis Rams are contributing $25,000 to relief efforts from the tornado that devastated Joplin, Mo., this week and damaged parts of St. Louis County last month. The Rams announced Friday the contribution will be divided equally between the American Red Cross and Salvation Army. In addition, the franchise said it would match contributions from its employees.

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell defended the lockout to some unhappy Tennessee Titans fans and said that the league does not have a "drop dead date" to end the impasse. "We're going to work to try to get this done and try to avoid having lost anything more of the NFL than we've already lost," the commissioner said.


Redskins coaches side with owners (AP)

The Washington Redskins coaching staff distanced itself from other coaches Thursday by siding with ownership -- and not the players -- in the NFL's labor dispute. The Redskins released a statement signed by all 17 of the team's assistant coaches.
