Roger Federer advanced to the fourth round at Wimbledon by beating 2002 runner-up David Nalbandian 6-4, 6-2, 6-4 Saturday. Federer is bidding to equal the record of seven Wimbledon titles, held by Pete Sampras and Willie Renshaw. The 16-time Grand Slam champion won the title at the All England Club from 2003-07 and in '09, but lost in the quarterfinals last year.


Venus gets by Date-Krumm 8-6 in 3rd set (AP)

Second-seeded Vera Zvonareva reached the third round at Wimbledon by defeating Elena Vesnina of Russia 6-1, 7-6 (5) on Wednesday. The 2010 Wimbledon runner-up improved her record to 6-1 against Vesnina, with her only loss coming last year when she retired with an ankle injury.


No. 4 seed Murray cruises into 3rd round (AP)

Fourth-seeded Andy Murray beat Tobias Kamke of Germany 6-3, 6-3, 7-5 Wednesday to ease into the third round of Wimbledon. The 24-year-old British player never lost serve, saving the only break point he faced, and broke the German four times. Kamke had more winners (24 to 23) and fewer unforced errors (18 to 19) than Murray, but was never in serious contention in the Court 1 match.


Nadal runs Wimbledon win streak to 16 (AP)

Rafael Nadal improved his winning streak at Wimbledon to 16 matches after beating Ryan Sweeting of the United States 6-3, 6-2, 6-4 Wednesday under the roof on Centre Court. The top-seeded Spaniard had already beaten his 23-year-old opponent twice in straight sets this year. Nadal made only seven unforced errors, although the 69th-ranked Sweeting managed to break once in the third set.


Berdych rolls into 3rd round (AP)

Tomas Berdych advanced to the third round at Wimbledon by defeating Julien Benneteau of France 6-1, 6-4, 6-2. The 2010 Wimbledon runner-up started his match more than two hours later than scheduled Wednesday because of rain on Day 3 at the All England Club. Last year, the Czech defeated six-time champion Roger Federer in the quarterfinals and Novak Djokovic in the semifinals.


Argentina's Del Potro to play Davis Cup (AP)

Juan Martin del Potro has been selected for Argentina's Davis Cup team after a two-year absence. Captain Modesto Vazquez Del Potro announced the Davis Cup team Wednesday. Del Potro will be joined by Juan Ignacio Chela, David Nalbandian and Juan Monaco. The team will play Kazakhstan in the quarterfinals next month on clay in Buenos Aires.


Rain already causing trouble on Day 3 (AP)

The already rain-plagued Wimbledon tournament has started on Day 3 under the Centre Court roof. While rain delayed play on all other courts Wednesday, five-time champion Venus Williams and 40-year-old Japanese veteran Kimiko Date-Krumm were playing in the main stadium. Dulko upsets 2010 finalist Stosur (AP)

Although Gisela Dulko missed the birth of her brother's twins because of the French Open, her sacrifice was rewarded Friday. The 51st-ranked Argentine upset 2010 French Open finalist Sam Stosur 6-4, 1-6, 6-3 on center court to reach the fourth round and match her best result at the clay-court Grand Slam.


Djokovic-del Potro on hold at 1 set each (AP)

Novak Djokovic's match against Juan Martin del Potro in the French Open's third round was suspended because of darkness Friday night with the players tied at a set apiece. Djokovic won the first set 6-3, and del Potro took the second 6-3. As they went to the sideline, the chair umpire announced play would stop for the day.


Schiavone first woman to reach 4th round (AP)

Defending champion Francesca Schiavone became the first woman to reach the fourth round at the French Open this year when Peng Shuai retired with respiratory problems while trailing 6-3, 1-2 Friday. Although the fifth-seeded Schiavone has yet to lose a set at this year's French Open, she was given a hard time early in the match before Peng started to feel ill.


Djokovic's win streak reaches 41 matches (AP)

Kim Clijsters wasted two match points and was eliminated from the French Open on Thursday, losing to Arantxa Rus of the Netherlands 3-6, 7-5, 6-1 in the second round. Clijsters, who had won her last 15 Grand Slam matches after taking the titles at last year's U.S. Open and this year's Australian Open, failed to convert either match point in the second set.

Doping rules keep Mauresmo out of French (AP)

Former top-ranked player Amelie Mauresmo will not compete in the mixed doubles tournament at the French Open because of the doping rules that apply to players coming out of retirement. Mauresmo, who retired two years ago, had planned to compete alongside fellow Frenchman Michael Llodra after they were granted a last-minute wild card.

Down a set and a break early in the match, Julia Goerges was far from looking like the heir to Steffi Graf as Germany's star tennis player. After beating top-ranked Caroline Wozniacki twice this season, the 22-year-old Goerges entered the French Open seeded 17th and with high expectations. But she needed to come up with something extra against Lucie Safarova on Wednesday.

Roger Federer made it look easy at the French Open on Wednesday, winning 13 straight games from the first set to the third. The 2009 champion at Roland Garros, despite being broken early in the match, beat French wild card Maxime Teixeira 6-3, 6-0, 6-2 to reach the third round. Teixeira is 1-1 at the French Open after winning his first tour-level match on Sunday.

Long a member of tennis' avant-garde when it comes to on-court fashion and accessories, Bethanie Mattek-Sands is wearing eyeblack strips with a downward curl at the French Open. "Football players and Major League Baseball players wear them because it helps a little bit with the glare. And I think it does; I've noticed a little bit of a difference," the American said Wednesday.

Although Caroline Wozniacki's bandaged left thigh doesn't worry her, her poor display on center court at the French Open maybe should. The top-seeded Dane scrapped into the third round at Roland Garros on Wednesday, needing almost two hours to defeat Aleksandra Wozniak of Canada 6-2, 7-6 (6).


US beats Sweden 2-1 in World Team Cup (AP)

The United States defeated Sweden 2-1 at the World Team Cup on Monday, with the doubles team of John Isner and Mardy Fish giving the Americans the clinching point. Isner put the U.S. ahead with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Christian Lindell, who was playing only his second ATP tournament. Robin Soldering rallied to tied it up with a 5-7, 7-5, 7-6 (3) win over Sam Querrey before Isner and Fish clinched it...

Hanescu cruises into 2nd round in Nice (AP)

Victor Hanescu of Romania eased into the second round of the Open de Nice with a 6-0, 6-1 win over French qualifier Benoit Paire on Monday. Hanescu, a semifinalist in Casablanca last month, broke his opponent five times and saved the six break points he faced to close out the match in just 54 minutes.
