Rafael Nadal hopes the Monte Carlo Masters can provide a lift. Right now, the top-ranked Spaniard can use one. Injured Clijsters may miss French Open (AP)

Another foot fault has deprived women's tennis of one of its best players. Kim Clijsters mangled her ankle at a wedding party last weekend, likely forcing the U.S. and Australian Open winner from the French Open. Her mishap recalls the accident that sidelined Serena Williams immediately after her Wimbledon victory last year.


Sweeting wins Clay Court for first title (AP)

Ryan Sweeting made sure he didn't get too far ahead of himself in the U.S. Men's Clay Court Championship final -- and ended up leaving Japanese star Kei Nishikori behind. "I feel in the past I'd see the finish line and I'd start thinking about that," Sweeting said after beating Nishikori 6-4 7-6 (3) on Sunday for his first ATP World Tour title.


Andujar rips Starace for first title (AP)

Pablo Andujar of Spain won his first career title after beating Potito Starace of Italy 6-1, 6-2 in the Grand Prix Hassan II final Sunday. Andujar broke the fifth-seeded Starace's serve twice in each set and saved the only two break points he faced. The 25-year-old Andujar lost his only previous final, last year at Bucharest, also on outdoor clay.

Azarenka rolls to second straight title (AP)

Top-seeded Victoria Azarenka of Belarus captured her second straight title Sunday, beating Irina-Camelia Begu of Romania 6-3, 6-2 to win the Andalucia Tennis Experience. Azarenka broke Begu's serve four times in the first set and three times in the second, continuing the dominating play that earned her a victory in Key Biscayne last weekend.

Nishikori, Sweeting in Clay Court final (AP)

Japanese star Kei Nishikori is trying to inspire his tsunami-torn country. Nishikori reached the second final of his ATP career Saturday with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas. Still, Nishikori's thoughts are never far from Japan. "It's not like I can promise to win but I hope I can win tomorrow and give a little hope," Nishikori said.

Wozniacki beats Jankovic to reach final (AP)

First, Caroline Wozniacki broke Jelena Jankovic's serve. Then the world's top-ranked player broke her opponent's spirit. Wozniacki broke Jankovic's serve five times Saturday in a 6-4, 6-4 semifinal victory at the Family Circle Cup. Also demoralizing, Jankovic acknowledged, were the extended rallies on the green clay court.

Djokovic to miss Monte Carlo with injury (AP)

Novak Djokovic has pulled out from the Monte Carlo Masters because of a knee injury. The second-ranked Djokovic said in a statement that his withdrawal is a "tough blow" because the Monte Carlo Masters is "his favorite tournament." Djokovic is undefeated so far this year with a 24-0 record.

Elections move Argentina's Davis Cup tie (AP)

The International Tennis Federation has confirmed that Argentina's Davis Cup quarterfinal against Kazakhstan has been moved up one day to avoid a conflict with government elections. The tie will now take place July 7-9 at Parque Roca in Buenos Aires. Buenos Aires will hold mayoral elections on July 10 and sporting events are prohibited that day.

Venus likely to travel with US, not play (AP)

Venus Williams plans to travel with the U.S. Fed Cup team for its World Group playoff at Germany but is not expected to play because of an injured hip that has sidelined her since January. Clijsters will not go to Japan, Beijing (AP)

Kim Clijsters is planning to avoid Japan over radiation fears since an earthquake and tsunami crippled a nuclear plant there. Clijsters told Belgian media on Tuesday that she wouldn't go to the WTA tournament in Tokyo in September nor to one in Beijing the following month. The WTA released a statement from Clijsters on Wednesday.

Top-seeded Robin Soderling of Sweden beat Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to defend his title at the ABN Amro World Tennis Tournament on Sunday. Soderling broke Tsonga's serve to take a 5-3 lead in the deciding set, serving an ace to wrap up the win. "I don't know how I managed to beat you," Soderling told Tsonga.

French Open to stay at Roland Garros (AP)

The French Tennis Federation voted to keep the French Open at its traditional Roland Garros venue and renovate the existing site by making it considerably larger, more attractive and modern, rather than moving it elsewhere. Three other venues were bidding to host the clay-court Grand Slam tournament by 2016.

Kvitova stuns Clijsters in Paris final (AP)

Australian Open champion Kim Clijsters fell to Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-4, 6-3 in the final of the Open Gaz de France on Sunday. Clijsters missed a routine forehand volley to give the Czech a 4-3 lead in the second set. Clijsters slammed an ace to save a match point, but Kvitova converted her second match point with a forehand winner for her third career title.
